Verna Alice Davenport died at Buena Vista, Monroe County, Ind. April 25, 1898. She was a daughter of John and Catharine Davenport, and was born in Montgomery County, Ind., in 1876. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Trotter, of Darlington, at the home of F. M. Mason’s at 2 o’clock on Wednesday, April 27. She was laid to rest in Richmond Cemetery. She left a father, mother, five sisters and one brother to mourn her loss. Her young life went out as the sun went down behind the western hills. She joined the M. E. Church three years ago, of which she was a faithful member. She bore her sufferings without a murmur. She bade her friends goodbye and told them to meet her in heaven. Her dying words were “take the world but give me Jesus.”  The honorary pallbearers were Vevia Slavens, Laura Bruso, Lissa Thewlis, Jessie Shotts, Pearl Slavens and Grace Simmons. The regular pall bearers were six young men, all of whom were her associates. - kz
